Global Crowdfunding Convention

2nd Time's a Charm

Fresh off the heels of our win at the Governor's Conference, we were relaunching our Kickstarter. Where else to do it than at the Global Crowdfunding Convention.

We had learned a few things the second time around for our Kickstarter. First, because we had connected with an injection mold company in the U.S. who could manufacture lower quantities of our product for a reasonable fee, we were able to lower our funding amount for our campaign: from $50,000 to a measly $2,500! Second, we reached out to our previous backers and asked them to support us again, on day one. Third, we simplified our campaign with fewer products, an easier to understand variety pack pledge level, and stuck with the two most popular sizes, Modern Age Comic Book and 11x17 Art Print. We were ready to give it a second go, and many Kickstarters succeed on their second run.

Right out of the gate, we reached our goal. What, you thought I was going to spend a whole page building up to it and then tell you at the end? No, the time for teasing is over, now is the time for action. If I remember correctly, we reached our goal in the first 24 hours, just from having the previous backers. Needless to say, we told everyone there about our success, and since we were at not just "a" but "the" crowdfunding convention, we received a lot of congratulations, and even a little bit of praise.

We spent the rest of the weekend at the GCC mingling with the others at the convention, getting to know them, learning about their own ideas, and even had a few meeting with private investors and businesses who specialized in making the big bucks happen. We learned that while we had funding from Kickstarter, we still had a lot of work to do in order to make this idea presentable to financing groups.
