Cutting Costs Cutting Costs

Our Kickstarter was a failure. It was time to do work. A lot of it. We were coming back to the table with a fresh perspective.

First thing we had to do, get the final Frameless design working. That was a lot easier said than done. While we had a fantastic prototype of Frameless, it was nowhere near our ideal final product. We still had a few months left on the provisional patent, where we could modify our design keeping our idea protected, so we had to act fast.

Frameless, the first design, had one major flaw, it couldn't easily scale to other sizes. The back of had been developed to be made completely of injection molded materials. That meant that every other size would need to be injection molded, which would require tooling to be done for the new size, and tooling for injection molds are ridiculously expensive. Our biggest hindrance with our first Kickstarter was because of the tooling costs. We were going to need help with our solution.

Luckily, we had been fortunate to connect with an injeciton mold company based out of New Hampshire, owned by a gentleman with over 20 years of experience in developing and manufacturing. After a couple months of trying out a half a dozen different designs, with the primary focus being cutting costs to the product, and streamlining the design, we stumbled upon the perfect evolution, a blend of injection molded components with wooden dowel rods to connect them to the back of the protective sleeve. It was elegant, simple, and best of all, gave us the opportunity to scale to any size we wanted to being that every kit would now have a universal setup.

And it couldn't have come at a better time. Not only did we need to relaunch our Kickstarter, and prepare for an few events coming up, but the one year grace period on our provisional patent was just about up, and if we didn't have our finalized design by the time the period ended, we'd end up losing our idea to the wind. You know what they say, if at first you don't succeed, show the world that it can't break you by doubling down. Wait, is that not something they say? Well, then we said it. Hey! Have a look at the old Frameless 1.0...How Retro!
